For those who have been here since this blog was created in 2018, go back in time with me a little bit while I point out five ways my style has changed since I started blogging. Many of my old choices were fashion mistakes in my eyes, but growth should be acknowledged.
Mistake #1: Glamour does not always equate to fashion!
Since I graduated high school, I am nowhere near as dramatic as I used to be as far as appearance. All of the jewelry and sequins are not my personality at all. Now I’m more natural in many different ways, which is more fitting for my shy, quiet personality.
Today, I’m daily dedicated to the same style of earrings, usually gold hoops. If I want to jazz it up, I add my usual gold bracelet. (thanks Nancy as always). If I wear a dress, it’s going to be relatively simple. If I want to make a statement, I’m more focused on the cut and silhouette.
Mistake #2: I used to think shorts needed to be as short and tight as possible
This one is pretty self explanatory. I’m glad I’ve been released from that mindset, at least for now. Whether denim or not, I:
#1. Care more about the way they fit to my hips, and #2. They need to be breathable.
Mistake #3: Jeans also had to fit like a glove or I thought they didn’t fit
I can confidently say I do not miss the era of skinny jeans. I always used to have the problem where jeans would fit around the waist, but they would be too short. Or, they would be long enough and not fit around the waist. As a person who is 90% legs, I’ve just had far better experiences with straight leg jeans.
Mistake #4: I didn’t understand fit
Beyond what I’ve learned from school, I do a lot of studying and reading about fashion and how to dress technically speaking. Understanding different body types and the reasoning behind why someone looks a certain way in something is intoxicatingly fascinating to me.
There are several mistakes in this dress I blogged in 2018. But, in the pictures from this summer, notice how the fabric sits on my body and elongates me, which is the goal!
Mistake #5: Shoe game was weak
In 2018, these checkered Vans were “shaking it up” for me. Today, I’m more likely to wear Jordans. I’m just as surprised as some of you might be.
