What’s on My Bookshelf: Fashion Edition series part 11
Yves Saint Laurent: Icons of Fashion Design & Photography
Marguerite Duras, 1988/2018
Picking up this book again this week, I was reminded of the good coffee table kind of books you can find at stores like Marshalls, T.J. Maxx, and HomeGoods. I got this one a few years ago for I’m assuming a decent price, and I still find it to be such a gem. We’re so often looking at pictures through our phones. It’s such a nice difference to flip through a thick, hearty book of beautiful fashion photographs.
Yves Saint Laurent probably seems like such an easy designer to name off, maybe from the occasional rap song references. But going back decades and decades to the history of the actual man behind the brand is what I love. Along with the pictures, the book has some information on the life of Yves Saint Laurent and his collections up to the 80s. Photographers are credited as well.
The way he was pioneering fashion is undeniable. Suits/tuxedos for women, the Mondrian dress, and safari shirts are just some of the fashion concepts we might forget to give him credit for. Being the successor to Christian Dior, his gorgeously constructed clothes, and the way he was always redefining the modern women all make him iconic. This is a great book for fashion lovers who also love a little fashion history.
