What’s on My Fashion Bookshelf: Collective Fashion Wisdom

What’s on My Bookshelf: Fashion Edition series part 2

Collective Fashion Wisdom

Joyce Ellis & Nancy Brinker with Jay Off, Liz Ricketts, & Craig Signer, 2011

This books answers fashion questions with responses from five different people with different perspectives. It informs the reader on topics such as how to shop, accessorize, and plenty more.

Some of my strong feelings towards building around good basic pieces and neutral colors might stem from reading this book when I got it a couple years ago.

Hands down, my favorite part of the book is the section about style. A lot of us question what personal style is, how to find your personal style, ect. I think this books does a great job of breaking that down some.

Personal style translates who you are, your aura, onto the outside. It’s a way of speaking without speaking, which is huge for someone like me who is more quiet.

Fashion is a visual way of communicating without words which is why I absolutely, wholeheartedly love it.

There are some good quotes in this book, too. Some of my favorites included:

“It’s not money that makes you well dressed, it’s understanding.” -Christian Dior

“I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way-things I had no words for.” -Georgia O’Keffe

“I like my money where I can see it, hanging in my closet.” -Carrie Bradshaw
